Westley's Bleche-White whitewall tire cleaner is the fastest, easiest, most effective paint and chrome stripper I've ever used and I've used plenty, including commercial products like Easy Lift-Off. It's dirt cheap about $4.00 for half a gallon and won't harm plastic or resin. Just pour some in a Tupperware, or similar container, let the parts you want to strip marinate for a few hours, then scrub off any stubborn bits of paint or chrome with an old toothbrush. [This Tip Is From : Ken Hart of Grayson, Ky. & Fine Scale Modeler Magazine.]

My personal favorite for stripping paint and/or chrome is regular Easy-Off Oven Cleaner.
Don't waste your time with the low fume stuff....just the regular original flavor will do.
It will peel most chrome in a few minutes and in about 45 minutes completely removes the clear coat under the chrome as well.
I have accidentally left parts to soak over night in throw away Glad-ware containers and Easy-Off has never eaten or melted a part.
It also beats the hell out of Wesleys when it comes to removing mold release from resin.
Just wear gloves and don't breathe the fumes.
