In order to foster this friendly interaction and create an environment where ALL model enthusiasts feel comfortable posting and hanging out, we have created a set of rules and guidelines which all members are required to follow. These rules are general in nature, as it is impossible to spell out every possible offense that may result in a thread being locked, deleted, or edited. Anytime a rule is broken, a moderator may officially notify the Member of the transgression. You will receive a "warning" for whatever rule was broken. The warnings will come to you as a PM (Private Message) AND a separate e-mail. It will notify you of the moderator that issued the warning/ban, the date, time, and the post content that broke the rule/rules. Any repeat offense to the same "Warning" may get board access restrictions (bans) placed on the offending SAM Forum Member's ID.
Each repeated offense will get a longer restriction off of the board escalating a total of 3 times.
The rules are as follows:
1. Expletives
Expletives (swear words) are not allowed, and for good reason. Many people are deeply offended by vulgar language. If you feel you must swear to get your point across, please censor yourself responsibly.
2. Spamming
Spamming or business advertisements by businesses that do not sponsor SAM Forums are not allowed. Threads or PMs determined to be "spam" will be deleted or forwarded to the Administration, This type of posting could possibly result with privileges to our board restricted or denied without notice. Lottery schemes being advertised on this board are considered Spam. Excessive advertisement of other "for profit" forums is also considered spam, and will be dealt with accordingly. If you are interested in sponsoring SAM Forums, please send inquiries to LMSEast@Yahoo.com
To offer added support to our Sponsors, we would ask that you refrain from recommending non-sponsor businesses, products, or services that are in direct competition to our Sponsors in your thread replies. If you wish to offer another source to our Members, please use the PM or e-mail option to give the information to our Members in a private manner. We will remove information in threads that will reduce revenue for our Sponsors.
Soliciting for Members of this site to go and join another site is also considered a form of Spam. Mentioning another site for reference or as an information source is acceptable but direct solicitation aimed at our Members to bolster some other site's Membership is inappropriate and subject to Moderator disciplinary action.
3. Flames or Derogatory Insults
Flames or derogatory insults are strictly against the LOC Forums rules. If you disagree with another member's point of view, do so in a mature and civil manner. If someone posts to discuss their personal problems or seek help from other forum members, please do not respond unless you have something positive or helpful to add. If you find yourself being flamed or insulted by another member, please do not dignify that person with a response. Notify a moderator and let us handle it. If you feel you must respond to a flame or insult directly, please do NOT do so on the board. Use private messages or e-mail.
4. Threats, Racism, or Sexism
Threads or replies promoting or expressing intolerant views towards minorities (race, religion, sexual preference, etc.) will not be tolerated.
5. Porn or NWS violations
Porn is not welcome here. Pictures showing nudity may be allowed in our "Anything Goes" section if an appropriate "Not Work Friendly" warning is posted in the subject line, and the picture is at worst, "R-rated." "X-rated" pictures, sites, or links are and will remain strictly against the rules.
6. Avatars or Signatures
Avatars and Signatures: the same rules that apply to your posts apply to your signatures and avatars. Please keep this in mind when selecting your avatar or signature. Your signature may only contain 145 characters and a size must be less than 45 kilobytes total, and the combined total area of the image can not be more than 240 X 320 (Height x Width in pixels). No image should be more than 320 pixels wide. Vehicle modifications are also not allowed in your signature. Listing modifications in your signature interferes with the search function of the message board. You can list mods in your signature picture.
7. Free Posts
"Free posts", or posting solely for the purpose of boosting your post count is not allowed. Many people judge member's credibility based on post count, so we ask that you obtain your post count legitimately in the SAM Forums.
Signature tests and avatar tests will be allowed in "The Test" forum, where posts do not count towards your post count.
8. Posting in Appropriate Forums
Please post your topics in the most appropriate forum (i.e., racing story threads only in racing story forums). If you post a thread that would be more appropriate in another forum, a moderator will move it for you. However, please do not make the moderators do this for you. Use your judgment to determine which forum(s) best suits your topic. If you are dealing with a TECHNICAL topic and it could appropriately fit in more than one forum, you may post it in multiple forums.
9. Controversial Topics
Controversial topics, such as religion, abortion, retardation, racism, etc., will NOT be allowed. Although these topics usually start out civilly enough, experience has shown that these sorts of topics invariably disintegrate into all out flame wars and heated arguments.
10. Drugs
Threads/replies promoting illicit drugs/narcotics will not be allowed.
11. Illegal Activities
Threads/replies encouraging other illegal/unethical action (like "Best way to kill your competitors?" will not be allowed. This also includes threads about using and/or obtaining illegal copies of copyrighted material such as software, music, videos, and sharing registration and license keys of copyrighted material...
12. Trolling
"Trolling” or makings posts with the sole intention of creating problems on the forums are obviously against the forum guidelines. This includes registering an alternate ID for the sole purpose of creating problems on the forums. "Troll ID's" will be locked immediately and permanently, and can be locked without notification to the offender.
13. Posting Harmful URL's
Any Member of the SAM Forums site that posts malicious or harmful URL links that cause:
• other Member’s PCs to become locked or have to be rebooted in order for the PC to regain functionality (Like the link to the "You're an idiot" page that ends up spawning countless little browser windows dancing all over your screen)
• “screaming”, (cannot be viewed safely for content or sound at work)
• Links that add another forum member to your ignore list
Will lose posting privileges permanently and will be banned from the board immediately.
14. Sponsor Bashing
Our paying Sponsors deserve respect and restraint. Attacking a sponsor on the board is strictly prohibited. If you have a complaint with a sponsor, you may send the information directly to an Administrator and it will be passed directly to the Sponsor for action or resolution. If you do post on the board about a specific problem involving a sponsor, please remain calm and state the facts. Do not let emotion cloud the issue at hand. When your thread is read by a moderator, the moderator will do the following:
A) Lock the thread and place a copy of the thread in the Moderator Forum OR the Sponsor Forum. These forums are not visible to the members but I assure you they do exist.
B) Reply to the locked thread that (A) has taken place.
C) The moderator or Administrator will update the locked thread with the response from the Sponsor OR the Sponsor will contact you directly.
We really hope situations can be resolved off-line but we will not prohibit a statement of fact BUT we will control the thread so as to stop the “Hate” or “Me too” replies these threads often generate.
If the situation resolution seems to be totally unacceptable or completely ignored, you should contact the Board owner, directly with your situation. Send all pertinent information to LMSEast@Yahoo.com
15. Attacking Forum Moderators
Posting a thread or reply to question or criticize moderator or administrator actions is not appropriate in a public forum. Please utilize the board's Private Message function, or e-mail, if you wish to discuss these issues. As long as you bring up your concerns maturely and civilly to the moderator or administrator in question, we will do our best to address your concerns fairly and promptly.
16. Classified Policies
#1 - You must own what you are selling. Do not post ads for friends.
#2 - No retail sales that are in competition with our sponsors! They pay to advertise here and sell new parts. If you wish to sell retail items on SAM Forums, you must become a site sponsor!
#3 - Links to eBay auctions are OK in the classifieds forum provided the following guidelines are followed.
General Do's and Don'ts
If you violate forum guidelines, in most cases, you can expect the following action from the moderators/administrators:
1. First offense- warning via private message, e-mail, and/or moderator reply in the offending LOCKED thread.
2. Second offense- 5-day deactivation of your ID.
3. Bye, Bye from the SAM Forums for good, NO exceptions.
Please realize that the nature of the offense will determine the action to be taken. If the violation is extreme enough, or has been repeated enough times in the past, a member can have his/her ID permanently banned without a warning.
The above rules and guidelines are necessary to make SAM Forums comfortable and enjoyable for ALL Modeling and automotive enthusiasts. If you feel you can not comply with the rules above, please refrain from using SAM Forums.
Thank you,
SAM Forums Administrators
